Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is the largest university in Virginia and ranks among the top 100 universities in the United States in sponsored research. VCU enrolls nearly 32,000 students in 205 certificate and degree programs in the arts, sciences and humanities. Sixty-five of the programs are unique in Virginia, many of them crossing the disciplines of VCU’s 15 schools and one college. The School of the Arts on the Richmond campus was founded in 1928 and is comprised of sixteen programs and more than 3000 students. It is ranked as one of the nation’s top arts and design university programs.

The fashion, graphic and interior design programs offered on the Qatar campus are modeled after the same nationally ranked programs delivered on the Richmond campus. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (USA), National Association of School of Art and Design, and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation accredit the programs offered in Qatar. VCU is the first university invited to the Education City project in 1998 and boasts a ten year record of teaching excellence in design along with an alumni network of 223 graduates. Through its programs VCUQatar prepares graduates to become productive citizens that contribute to the professional and cultural growth of the Middle East and Asia. Rich and varied educational experiences introduce students to new ideas and a breadth of knowledge to successfully face the challenges of the future.

A contemporary approach to design integrating the cultures of the region is offered in the three majors. Through experienced professors and a comprehensive four-year curriculum, VCUQatar prepares its graduates to assume careers and leadership roles in the professional design fields of their choice. Degree programs foster creativity and a passion for design by encouraging the application of design process and international ideas. The learning environment fosters one-to-one feedback from faculty members, research and hands-on design projects.

For the BFA in Fashion Design, students study the creative, technical and business aspects of fashion. Education ranges from designing apparel to developing strategies for merchandising the apparel. Students also study jewelry and textile design. Faculty concentrate on developing skills that allow graduates to work confidently and creativity within a competitive fashion industry.
