The Faculty and Staff Life committee helped organize some great events this semester. Texas A&M University at Qatar collaborated with the Faculty and Student Life committee to organize an inter- university Quiz Night on October 31st, 2011. The competition was between faculty and staff from all branch campuses in Education City. Held in the Student Center Ball Room, the event not only tested general knowledge but also encouraged healthy competition between universities in Education City.
The event began by welcoming all faculty and staff competitors with a cocktail reception and a live jazz band performance. This helped lighten the mood and encourage some great competition between the campus teams. The band played amazing tracks and did a great job in eliminating any nervousness in the room. After the welcome, the teams got to work: 6 teams, each representing their respective branch campuses participated in the event and competed against each other. They were tested on several topics ranging from history, geography, and politics to film, sports, and art.
Ouidad Bounama, lead organizer of the event said, "The teams were in a very competitive and jovial mood. They were behaving like children - competitive, loud and very energetic. I wish their students were there to see their Professors fight over quiz points."
The competition consisted of 2 rounds of intense questionnaire. While all teams exhibited a wide range of knowledge, the SFSQ, Georgetown University team remained unmatched in both rounds, showing a wider range of knowledge than any other team. To celebrate this win, SFSQ Georgetown University will be organizing the next Quiz Night on January 26th along with The Faculty and Staff Life Committee. We hope that students will be there to support their professors for the next Quiz Night.
