Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar held its annual Diplomatic Ball on the 12th of April at the Four Seasons Hotel. This event has already become an integral and much awaited part of the Georgetown calendar. It gives a chance to Georgetown students to interact with the diplomatic community of Doha and gain valuable insight into their work. Dignitaries from various diplomatic missions in Doha were welcomed by the Georgetown community for an evening of dinner, conversation and dancing.

The ball was also attended by a representative of the Qatar Red Crescent who took the opportunity to update guests about the relief efforts in Syria and exhorted them to give donations for the cause. He saw this as an excellent opportunity for “current and future leaders to unite for a greater purpose.” This was also the first Diplomatic Ball for Dean of SFS-Q Gerd Nonneman and he welcomed the guests and encouraged Georgetown students to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge about the workings of diplomacy.

Atul Menon, a Freshman at Georgetown, added, “I had heard a lot about the Diplomatic Ball and it lived up to my expectations. I was able to interact with the Ambassadors of Iran and Japan and asked them about their foreign policy and their stay in Qatar.”
The Office of Student Affairs along with members of the student government and staff had put much effort into making this year’s ball a resounding success. This year marks the fourth time that Georgetown University in Qatar has held a diplomatic ball modeled on a similar ball hosted annually by the School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C.
