EDUCATION CITY

Orientation

During the International Student Orientation in 2010, new students received reusable mugs and take-away containers (eco-clamshells) to encourage them to make choices that help reduce waste. Furthermore, locally grown vegetables were selected for the Annual Cooking Competition to inform students about the various types of foods grown in Qatar and why one should consider these concepts.

Housing & Residence Life

All events coordinated by Housing & Residence Life strive to help students reduce waste: students are encouraged to bring their own reusable mug and take-away containers to programs. Additionally, HRL provides education and support to motivate , students to recycle aluminum, paper and plastic in receptacles on the ground floors of each hall. Qatar Charity also provides donation boxes in which students may leave unwanted – yet still usable – clothes, shoes, and personal items. These items are collected every month and donated to institutions in various countries.

Classes

Various courses related to the topic of sustainability are being taught in the Education City universities. Please e-mail with information about Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 courses so they can be included on this page and in Education City materials!

Student Employment

Sustainable Living Ambassadors (SLAs) are Education City students that work five hours a week to educate EC students about topics related to sustainability. SLAs are employed by EC to educate students about resource efficiency, ethical and responsible purchasing, and the impact of their choices on the environment and community. Students interested in applying to be Sustainable Living Ambassadors should visit http://tech4work.com/.
