Qatar Today Green Awards 2010
The Qatar Today Green Awards are a yearly recognition of the best sustainability-related organizations in Qatar and it is organized by the Qatar Today publication and HSBC bank.
During November 2010, Qatar Foundation Housing & Residence Life was awarded the Environmental Vision in the Education Section Award, for its RecycleMania program during spring 2010.
RecycleMania is a 10-week recycling competition between all the residence halls in Education City. Students receive weekly feedback about each building’s yield of recyclables in the 3 different categories: plastic, paper and aluminum. Awards are given at the end of the term for the buildings that ranked in the top of the group.
During November 2008, Qatar Foundation Housing & Residence Life was awarded the Innovation Award, for the design of its new student housing complex.
The new residence halls, two 600 bed complexes, were designed with the latest concepts of natural resource conservation in mind, seeking to achieve USGBC LEED Platinum certification. These buildings were also intended to follow ACUHO-I’s 21st project guidelines, focusing on community, technology, sustainability and flexibility.
