Most basic question, can people exercise in Ramadan?

“yes and they should” Sameh said.  However, you can’t set a goal and say it fits all people, because each person is special and need a different program. But again all people can exercise in Ramdan, young, adults, diabetes.. etc

What kind of exercises are recommended and what not?

In Ramadan you need to look for exercises that are efficient without losing a lot of energy, because you already have lack of energy especially at the first week of Ramadan. So try to avoid exercises like aerobic and circuit training. And one of the myths is that cardio session is the best in Ramadan, which is wrong because you need to have proper amount of water before, during, and after the session.

What is the advisable time to workout?

It will never be while you are fasting, because your body is already dehydrated, so once you start exercising it will be even more dehydrated even if you are not sweating and you are working out in AC areas. So the best time to workout is after having a light iftar like the prophet Mohammed used to have simple iftar of yogurt and dates.

What is the trend? Do people tend to lose weight during the holy month?

Unfortunately, people tend to gain weight due to the unhealthy food and diet. In addition to the amount of food you have at the two main meals of iftar and suhoor. So you drop the metabolic rate because you are not taking your regular meals, and your body try to save-up fat as a way to adapt to Ramadan.
