DOHA: The fourth annual senior convocation of six university campuses under the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) will be held on May 3.
Nearly 250 students making up the class of 2011 will graduate this year, an increase of around a quarter from last year.
HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, will grace the occasion while, students will receive rings from QF Vice President for Education Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani before they do the traditional walk through the ‘Door to the Future,’ symbolizing their passage from QF universities to the next stage of their lives.
Each university has its own graduation ceremony, but Senior Convocation will bring together every graduating student from across QF’s Education City, including both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
“We are looking forward to celebrating these young people at Senior Convocation. They have worked hard over several years to reach this high level of achievement, and their recognition at the ceremony will be well deserved,” said Dr Abdulla Al Thani.
A total of 242 students are expected to attend the ceremony, of which almost half are Qatari. 155 are male and 87 female.
Forty-nine students from Virginia Commonwealth University will graduate this year, while, 31 from Weill Cornell Medical College, 60 from the Texas A&M University, 43 from the Carnegie Mellon University, 45 from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Studies and 14 students from the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies will graduate this year.
