DOHA: Renowned Saudi designer Sonia Ashour (pictured) will be the featured speaker at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar’s (VCU-Q) commencement ceremony on May 2.

Sonia is the co-founder of the Department of Interior Design at Dar Al Hekma, one of the first and leading private colleges for women in Saudi Arabia, where she has also lectured in Foundation of Colour, Graphics and Drawing.

She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Architecture from King Faisal University, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in International Hospitality Design from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.

Four seniors at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar have qualified to graduate with university honours. They are Khadija Khozema Safri, Mariam Mohamed Filio Al Sarraj, Natasha Nicole Sturko and Yasmeen Nabeel Suleiman.

The honours programme at VCU-Q is modelled on the honors program at VCU Richmond, and was implemented six years ago. Dr Timothy Hulsey, Dean of the Honours College at VCU-Q said: “The VCU Qatar honours programme has, in a very short time, become one of our proudest accomplishments. The graduates of this programme represent the best of Virginia Commonwealth University."

VCU-Q commencement will be held on May 2 at the Ritz-Carlton, Doha.
