During a ceremony held on Saturday at the Cultural Village, Katara under the auspices of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and in co-operation with the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, some 12 prominent achievers were given the awards for their outstanding accomplishments.

The award categories and recipients are as follows:
- Advancement of peace award: Arab Youth Movement in memory of late Mohamed Bouaziz, represented by his brother - Salem Bouaziz

- Philantropy and charitable services award: Suad Juffali - Saudi Arabia

- Arab women of the year award: Souhayr Belhassen - Tunisia

- Exceptional contribution to Arab society award: George Galloway - the UK

- Innovation in Education award: Elham Palestine Community - Palestine (represented by Lamis Alalami)

- Young entrepreneur award: Sanar Muhareb - Jordan

- Environmental development and sustainability award: Nature Iraq - Iraq (represented by Azzam Alwash)

- Science and technological advancement award: Mujid Kazimi - Palestine

-Outstanding corporate leader: Ghanim bin Saad al-Saad - Qatar

Apart from the main awards, an additional award - lifetime achievement recognition was added to the year’s list to acknowledge two inspiring individuals whose pioneering spirit and lifelong dedication have had a significant impact on society.

The recipients of the new honour were: Helen Thomas - Lebanon/ the US and late Hassib Sabbagh - Palestine (represented by his daughter - Sana Sabbagh).

The awardees were selected by a international jury comprising Jordanian Queen Noor al-Hussein, United Nations former undersecretary and Algerian secretary general special advisor Dr Lakhdar Brahimi, International Atomic Energy Agency Nobel Peace Laureate and director general Emeritus Dr Mohamed el-Baradei, Palestinian legislator Dr Hanan Ashrawi, Renault-Nissan Alliance president and chief executive officer Carlos Ghosn and Syria-based RWS Energy Services chairman Raja Sidawi.
The Takreem awards, are committed to becoming an annual landmark that will shape a brighter perception of Arabs worldwide, was envisioned by Takreem chairman and chief executive officer Ricardo Karam.
By honouring Arab excellence and leadership around the world the Takreem awards seeks to contribute in creating role models and in inspiring present and future generations, he said.
The awards was supported by Consolidated Contracting Company - supporter of philanthropy and charitable services award; The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage - supporter of Cultural excellence award; Salam International - supporter of outstanding corporate leader award; Alsumaria - supporter of young entrepreneur award; Manaseer Group - supporter of innovation in education award; Qatar Science and Technology Park - supporter of Scientific and technological achievement award; Renault-Nissan Alliance - supporter of the Arab Woman of the Year award; and Total - supporter of the environmental development and sustainability award.
