DOHA: High school students will have the opportunity to tell the stories of Qatar and its people during a two-week summer programme offered by Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) this July.
The summer programme, “Northwestern Connect: Journey.” This year’s theme, “Mobile Cultures,” Is designed to teach high school students how to use all the components of modern media – photography, video, audio, and the written word – to create compelling non-fiction work. It also gives students an introduction to the critical thinking and media theory skills necessary tools to effectively explore and document how a person or place changes over time.
“The summer Mobile Cultures program is the most intensive of our several outreach initiatives for high school students,” said Northwestern dean John Margolis. “The student work produced in a mere two weeks has been enormously impressive, as our students explore various perspectives of Qatar life and culture and present their stories with skill and passion.”
Mobile Cultures is taught by Northwestern faculty who provide specific instruction and feedback to students throughout the program. As part of the experience students will participate in field trips to Al Jazeera Network, the Stars of Science set, and SouqWaqif, as well as attend several movie nights.
