DOHA: The Supreme Council of Information Technology (ictQATAR), which partnered with IFP Qatar to organise Qitcom 2011, presented the six winners of the “Innovation Theatre” contest held on the sidelines of the conference with motivational awards. The names of the award winners will be announced at a later stage.

 

Also, following the resounding success of the inaugural edition, as reflected by opinions of the participating companies and industry experts, ictQATAR announced that Qitcom 2012 will be held in March next year at the Qatar National Convention Center of Qatar Foundation.

 

The first edition of Qitcom has been successful in furthering Qatar’s stature as a regional and world leader in the development of Arabic digital content and fostering new IT companies, with the underlining goal of realising the Qatar 2030 vision of transformation into a knowledge-based economy, the organisers of the event said.Commenting on the outstanding success of the event, Dr Hessa Sultan Al Jaber, Secretary General of ictQATAR, said, Qitcom 2011 has paved the way for a new breakthrough in Qatar’s ICT sector as this event served as an excellent platform for furthering investments, discussing the best ways to face the current challenges, nurturing new ICT companies and developing Arabic digital content in general.”

 

During the closing ceremony at the Ritz Carlton Hotel –Doha, Marwan Maarouf Mahmoud, Executive Director of ICT Industry Development at ictQATAR, noted that the huge presence of major local and international corporations and experts at Qitcom 2011 is testimony to the success of the first edition of this conference and exhibition.He also pointed out that Qitcom signals a major shift in the reality and future of ICT in Qatar, as it highlighted Qatar’s stature in the region’s ICT industry, aside from the investment opportunity offered by Qatar’s public sector during the next decade.

 

On his part, Qatar Foundation’s Executive Director of Operations, Khalid Al Sulaiteen stressed the importance of participation in “Qitcom 2011” as it plays a major role in furthering the growth of the ICT industry, driving the efforts for developing Arabic digital content and establishing Qatar’s leading regional standing in this regard. Sulaiteen also noted the success of the event’s first edition, expressing his admiration of its “Innovate”, “Communicate” and “Transform” theme.Sa’di Awienat, Qatar Foundation’s Director of Information Technology, said, “At the very beginning Qitcom was just a dream that faced lots of challenges and yet transformed into a resounding success”.

 

He stressed that “Qatar Foundation will back the initiative’s next edition as part of its role to support community development and investment in human capital in line with its objective of unlocking human potential and leveraging it in the best way possible”.
