Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development received today the Cisco Innovation Award for the ' Most Society Impacting Network' for its state of the art National Research & Education Network project (QFREN) following a tough competition with worldwide organisations.
QF reached the top of the list beating tough competition including world-wide organisations like Poland and Ukraine's Euro 2012 Stadiums, Jordan's Public Security Directorate, and Kenya's Safaricom Ltd along with Qatar Foundation.
The award winning ultra high-speed network, which comes as part of QF achievements in education and research sectors, will connect many research facilities and higher education institutes in Qatar as well as providing access to the most powerful research powerhouses worldwide, such as the European Organization for Nuclear Research's (CERN's) Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland.

QFREN is State-of-the art, 40 Gbps-ready fiber optic network supports video-based collaborations, computer-intensive research projects, and end-to-end Cisco advanced technologies.
The REN, which will be launched this year, would enhance QF,vision to unlock human potential and support Qatar on its journey of transformation from carbon economy to knowledge-based economy.
The Cisco Innovation Awards recognize and honour organizations that truly embrace new and advanced technology whilst leading the field in delivering real and tangible benefits for business and society. The winners of the Cisco Innovation Awards 2011 represented a diverse range of industry sectors ranging from technology, communications and service providers, were chosen for their outstanding achievements in the deployment and successful implementation of innovative technologies.
