The Qatar Academy (QA) held its graduation ceremony on Tuesday night at the Al-Safia Ballroom of Grand Hyatt Doha.
The ceremony marked the achievement not only of the graduates but of Qatar Academy as well.

School director Dr Gregory Hedger acknowledged the students’ efforts in meeting the school’s rigorous academic requirements.
“Over the years, Qatar Academy has developed a reputation as a premier school of excellence. This reputation has developed because we have high expectations for our students. We expect them to perform academically, to be contributing members of our school, national and global communities, to engage in thinking and in discussion, and to be role models for others. What we expect of them is nothing short of amazing, and I’m proud to say each of these students has met our expectations,” he said.

As the first educational institution to be established in Qatar Foundation, QA has been instrumental in nurturing students into becoming achievers in their own right.The commencement night featured QA graduates who have successfully utilised the education they received in the school, especially the ceremony’s guest speaker Mohamed al-Mannai, LLB, now an associate with McNair Chambers after becoming the first Qatari barrister ever.Al-Mannai recalled his time in QA and praised its staff and faculty for having the “foresight in sowing the seeds of an educated and curious society.”

He also reminded the fresh graduates that hard work and faith in themselves were the only keys to their success and to embrace their future experiences. “It will allow you to nurture and grow your intellect.”
Alumni speaker Sara al-Misnad echoed his sentiment: “Your academic engagement combined with personal passion bore a tailored educational experience that was intellectually and socially rewarding. As today’s youth, we are tomorrow’s investment. Each one of us is an individual thread, which, when woven together, become’s society’s net. By means of self reflection, your mind will find the capacity to mature and prosper; making your lives worthy of the tapestry we weave.”

Valedictorian Aya Aal-Jerbi capped off the night by expressing gratitude on behalf of her classmates saying: “For all the guests today, you probably think that you’re here to celebrate us, but we think we’re actually here to celebrate you, the family and faculty that got us to graduation.”Addressing the class of 2011, she concluded: “The world is a stage for us today and the path ahead is clear. It’s up to us to grab opportunities as they present themselves before us, believe in our dreams and most importantly believe in ourselves. May the dreams of your past be the reality of your future.”
