The Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Carnegie Mellon University – Qatar (CMUQ) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of education, scientific research, executive education and community development.
The MoU was signed by Rashid bin Khalifa al-Khalifa, Assistant Minister for Services Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ilker Baybars, dean of CMU-Q, at a signing ceremony attended by Hassan bin Ibrahim al-Mohannadi, director of the Diplomatic Institute; Richard Mundy, chief operations officer at CMUQ; and Fadhel Annan, director of Government Initiatives at CMUQ.
Al-Khalifa said that the MoU also aimed at sharing professional experiences, scientists and researchers in business administration, information systems and public policy.
“The MoU will help the two organisations achieve their common goals, and the co-operation between the two parties will lead to effective integration between the government organisations and academia,” he added.
Al-Khalifa also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Diplomatic Institute, places great emphasis on the development of skills and abilities of its staff and considers it a top priority in order to keep pace with the massive achievements made by Qatari diplomacy at the international and regional levels.
He added that the ministry sought to share experiences with research and training institutions, which was a crucial part of achieving the ministry’s message.

Baybars said that the academic curricula at Carnegie Mellon were designed to prepare young nationals to be able to compete in the global labour market, and keep pace with the growth and development taking place in Qatar.
