The Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar is hosting an open house reception for prospective Master of Fine Arts (MFA) students today from 6pm to 7.30pm at its Saffron Hall.

The event is designed for students interested in learning about what it takes to earn an MFA degree in Design Studies from VCUQatar.

The MFA.DESIGN is the first graduate design programme in the Gulf region.
The evening will begin with an introduction and presentation by MFA. DESIGN programme director Constantin Boym, followed by a panel discussion and a question answer session with MFA faculty and some graduate students in the programme.
Besides information about the programme, the process of how to assemble a portfolio and other application details will be explained at the reception.

VCUQatar personnel will provide details about scholarship and internship opportunities as well. Prospective students will also be taken on a tour of the state-of-the-art MFA design facilities that include a Media Lab, 3-D Fabrication Lab, General Library and the Materials Library.

Placed amidst a great transformation of Qatar, the programme gives students a unique chance to both learn from this historical process and to influence its future development.

“This is a great moment to get involved with the MFA.DESIGN programme. In the next ten years, there will be lots of design activity in Doha, to prepare the city for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. We will be working with the best of the young local talent to turn them into world-class designers, capable of making contributions in many different fields: from branding and communications to interior and architectural design,” said Boym.
