The Learning Center, a Qatar Foundation initiative to teach children with learning difficulties, has been renamed Awsaj Institute of Education (AIE) after native plant Awsaj.

The institute has adopted the new name, mission and vision while it prepares to move into its new home in a few months time, the Qatar Foundation Telegraph has reported.

The AIE will host two entities- an academy and a teaching and learning centre. While, Awsaj Academy will teach children from kindergarten through to grade 12, Awsaj Teaching and Learning Center will help children with guidance and provide professional development services for staff and other stakeholders in Qatar and abroad.
“We were thinking about growth, something that is beautiful and something that grows in Qatar,” Suad al-Kindi, special assistant to the director told the Qatar Foundation Telegraph.

“We are a school that takes children who are facing learning difficulties and we try to remedy that using the best strategies,” she explained.

This vision is reflected in the institution’s new slogan, ‘Excellence: Everyday, Everyway.’ The new vision and mission aims to clarify institute’s goals as well. Through partnerships with leading institutions in special education, it will act as an applied research arm of Qatar Foundation and hold workshops and conferences for other education professionals.

Although the academy will only be able to admit a relatively small percentage of children with learning challenges, it will share its knowledge with other schools and teachers, thereby helping more children than just its own students.
